Despite the popularity of cubicle-mounted working areas, typical single-detached office desks are still being manufactured and used. However, in order to address the needs of the present business community where functionally and size are big factors, office desks come in different varieties according to shape, type of compartments and material.

Other than the typical rectangular shaped desks, office desks are also being manufactured in L and U shaped. These types are very functional and not only provide large working areas but large storage spaces underneath as well. However, these types of desks are best only when space is not an issue. If it is, then the rectangular shaped desks are still better.

Aside from the shape, office desks can be made to hold different specific compartments or drawers, depending on the type of work the desks is used for. If for instance the desk will be used as a combined writing and computer desk, then compartments for the central processing unit and printer can be installed.

Office desks are available from both online and local office furniture shops in different price range which is usually determined by the material they are made of. Hardwood desks are usually much more expensive than those made from plywood or fiberboard.
